Corporate Sustainability

Corporate Sustainability

Midland Fire recognise that businesses play a vital role in shaping a more sustainable and socially responsible future. We recognise the importance of reducing our environmental impact while continuing to deliver high-quality fire protection services to our clients.

Sustainability is embedded within our operational strategy and long-term planning, ensuring that environmental responsibility sits alongside safety, quality and compliance.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Since 2021, we have actively measured and reported CO₂ emissions from our business activities. Early on, accessing reliable data was a challenge, However we have streamlined our procedures and introduced improved reporting systems, making it easier to monitor our impact accurately and transparently.

Our ongoing commitments include:

  • Waste management:

Continuous monitoring of waste streams, using our provider’s reporting portal to track CO₂ savings from diverting waste from landfill.

  • Environmental compliance:

Maintaining zero reportable environmental incidents through robust controls and procedures.

  • Vehicle emissions reduction:

Using a company minibus for large sites instead of multiple vans, and ensuring all Directors’ and Project Managers’ vehicles are fully electric (EV only), supported by office-based charging infrastructure.

  • Future fleet improvements:

Exploring the introduction of EV vans for local projects.

  • Responsible recycling:

Correct storage and recycling batteries, our main electronic waste stream, with improved segregation after our office move.

Proud Members of the Green Small Business Scheme

Midland Fire Security Services Ltd is proud to be one of 261 businesses currently certified under the Green Small Business Scheme, showing our formal commitment to environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.

Through our participation in the scheme, we have assessed our environmental impact and implemented structured actions to reduce it. These include reviewing energy use, waste management, supply chains, and operational efficiency.

As part of our verified commitment to sustainability, we also launched a CO₂ offsetting programme in January 2026. Each year, we are committed to offsetting 24 tonnes of CO₂, achieved by planting seven trees at the Rowan Tree Farm Reserve in Derbyshire.

Being part of the Green Small Business Scheme and investing in carbon offsetting shows that sustainability at Midland Fire is more than just words — it’s a measurable, accountable commitment that we will continue to build on this foundation as we aim for even higher environmental standards.

Working Towards Net Zero: Our Carbon Reduction Goals

Reducing operational emissions is a core priority for Midland Fire. Our environmental strategy combines investment in infrastructure, renewable energy, improved reporting systems, and responsible waste management.

New Office Development (2026)

In 2026, Midland Fire relocated to a newly renovated office, designed with sustainability at its core. Key improvements include:

  • Four EV chargers for staff and visitors.
  • A 35.6kW solar PV array on the roof, expected to provide the majority of the office’s electricity needs and save around 5.2 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
  • LED lighting throughout the building to reduce energy use and maintenance costs.
  • Motion sensors to switch off lights when rooms are empty.
  • A central “kill switch” to turn off all non-essential equipment at the end of each day.

These measures significantly reduce reliance on grid electricity and lower our operational emissions from day one.

Waste & Carbon Monitoring

Our 2025 waste report confirms that 100% of our waste is diverted from landfill, saving approximately  38 tonnes of CO₂. These verified savings help offset our operational emissions and demonstrate the real impact of our sustainability efforts.

To further strengthen carbon tracking and reporting accuracy, we have:

  • Introduced a new energy and fuel card provider with enhanced, real-time reporting capabilities.
  • Utilised Shell Hub for monthly CO₂ emissions monitoring.
  • Waste is carefully sorted so food, paper, plastics, and electronics can be recycled or composted properly.

These steps give us clear, up-to-date data to make informed decisions, helping us reduce emissions and improve efficiency across the business.

Midland Fire is committed to leading by example. We believe every action counts. By embedding responsible practices into our daily operations and continuously improving our environmental performance, we are not only protecting the planet but also building positive change for the people and communities around us. A responsible business is a better business and through these ongoing efforts we are committed to making a lasting, meaningful impact today and for generations to come.
