Future-proofing Westpoint Construction with new EV charging infrastructure
Earlier this year, our Electrical Division was called on to help drive change for local company Westpoint Construction, delivering a multi-stage EV charging installation at their Redditch site. Westpoint was ready to plug in to the growing electric vehicle trend, to help future-proof their business and demonstrate their commitment to sustainable practice.
We installed eight wall-mounted intelligent EV chargers at their premises and provided an updated electrical infrastructure, load management systems and signage. We were pleased to support the client on this project, because as a business, Midland Fire is highly invested in the country-wide switch to electric vehicles and the benefits this will bring for the environment.
Installing EV charge points for Westpoint Construction not only keeps their business ahead of the curve, it also encourages more sustainable travel and will help improve the air quality of our local area in the long run. Our team was also happy to inform the client they were eligible for the OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) grant, a scheme that rewards businesses for their buy-in to electric travel, which we’ll go more into later.

Westpoint Construction
Westpoint Construction is a regional contractor specialising in civil engineering and commercial building works. Dedicated to innovation and maintaining a forward-thinking approach, the installation of EV chargers at their head office aligns with the company’s future-focused values.
As part of an ongoing site development programme, they were expanding parking facilities and required a smart, scalable EV charging installation to serve a growing fleet of hybrid and electric vehicles. On this project, they provided all required civil engineering works for the wall mounted chargers, including cable ducting and slab removal.

EV charger installation for Westpoint Construction
The project
As mentioned, our client’s electric fleet is growing, so they decided to install EV chargers into the external walls of their car park as part of their site development. This installation aims to ensure safe, efficient charging for drivers, staff and visitors alike. We installed the following:
- 2 x iCS 22kW W22C Intelligent EV Charging Stations with 32A Type 2 sockets
- 6 x iCS 7kW W7C Intelligent EV Charging Stations with 32A Type 2 sockets
- iCS Load Management Hub with solar & ESS integral features
- 100A CT clamps for dynamic load management
- 8 x iCS post signs
- New mains cabling from existing LV panel to a new dedicated LV panel for EV charging
- New external containment and cabling to feed chargers

The Process
The full EV charger infrastructure installation process went as follows:
- OZEV grant application
First, we checked Westpoint Construction’s eligibility for the grant and helped them apply. Westpoint received funding for all eight of their chargers under the Workplace Charging Scheme, which offers businesses up to 75% off the cost of equipment purchase and installation.
- Site assessment and infrastructure planning
Our engineers completed a full survey of existing electrical capacity and optimal cable routing for both wall-mounted and car park installations.
- Installation of new electrical containment
We installed new galvanised external containment to support long cable runs from a new dedicated LV EV charger panel in the switch room.
- Civil engineering works coordination
Our client provided ducting and ground preparation themselves, which allowed for efficient installation of feeder cabling and charger posts.
- EV charger point installation
Next came the installation of the chargers themselves. Our team mounted and wired all iCS chargers and connected them to new RCD-protected circuits.
- Load management setup
The iCS Load Management Hub and 100A CT clamps were configured to ensure chargers do not exceed site electrical capacity, protecting the infrastructure and ensuring safe operation.
- Testing and commissioning
Lastly, full functional tests, insulation resistance checks and load verification were carried out before energising the new equipment. Commissioning was carried out alongside iCS Technical and Westpoint Construction’s IT team.
The Challenges
As we were working across a live business site and car park during working hours, this project required careful coordination with our client, Westpoint Construction. Our engineers had to work flexibly around the civil works, as well as arrange an out of hours shutdown to safely install and connect the new LV distribution board dedicated for the EV chargers.
We also worked closely with their IT team to make sure we had WiFi available to get the units online. Luckily, this was not our first rodeo! So thanks to clear communication and our experience in adaptive scheduling, we got the job done efficiently and with minimal disruption.
The result
Thanks to the success of this project, Westpoint Construction’s Redditch site now benefits from a fully integrated, intelligently managed EV charging system, capable of supporting both staff and visitors safely and efficiently. It’s a great example of how collaborative planning between electrical and civil contractors leads to a high‑quality result.

- Dynamic load management protecting the site’s electrical capacity.
