NICEIC Approved Contractor Midland Fire Works in Partnership With Local Hilton Hotels
At Midland Fire, we’re proud to shout about the work we do for the iconic Hilton Hotels & Resorts, providing commercial electrical services for two of their luxury sites – Hilton at St George’s Park and Hilton Nottingham. From lighting upgrades to kitchen equipment installation, our team of commercial electricians are their go-to for everything with an on/off switch.
Our partnership with Hilton began at St George’s Park where we initially got electrical work through emergency call-outs. Impressed with our reaction times and the quality and success of our repairs, we were then asked to tender for their electrical works, and the rest is history. We were then recommended to carry out work at the Hilton Nottingham property and so have become a trusted contractor for the Hilton group locally.
Our team has visited their properties on several occasions recently, helping greatly with the upkeep and safety of the electrical infrastructure at both sites. Our work for them has included an upgrade of their external lighting, the installation of Rational ovens and pizza ovens, and thermal image rectifications, as well as life safety and security system surveys and servicing.
“With large projects or small call outs, nothing is too much or too little for Midland Fire – this is why they are now a nominated supplier for Hilton Hotels. I have experienced highly creditable customer service, and Pete Walker is able to provide extensive knowledge and experience within the electrical industry.”
Luke Woodward, Maintenance Manager at Hilton Nottingham
Hilton Hotels & Resorts
Over the last 100 years, Hilton has turned into a household name, synonymous with luxury and exceptional customer service. Part of the larger Hilton portfolio, Hilton Hotels & Resorts boasts over 600 properties worldwide, spread across six continents and located in more than 90 countries.
Two of those hotels – Hilton at St George’s Park and Hilton Nottingham – are now our regular clients. Both uphold the Hilton commitment to responsible tourism and positive environmental impact across their operations, which are values that we resonate with at Midland Fire. We do our best to always work with the most energy-efficient equipment and installation methods for the benefit of all businesses, big and small, in our local area.
Commercial electrical services for Hilton Hotels
Here’s an overview of the recent electrical services work our team has carried out across all areas of Hilton’s St George’s Park and Nottingham hotels:
Lighting upgrades
Alongside a lighting specialist, our experienced electricians upgraded a number of external lights from halogen to LED around the St George’s Park hotel’s vast grounds. We offered our client the LED alternative as it’s more energy efficient, requires less maintenance and will also bring cost savings over time by reducing the hotel’s energy consumption.
Fixed wire testing rectifications
We carried out C1, C2, C3 and FI rectifications based on another contractor’s recommendations following an EICR. This included downrating circuit protection where it exceeded the current capacity of the cables, repairing earth faults on sockets, replacing damaged cables that weren’t suitable for the environment, and installing blanks in electrical panels to prevent the live parts from touching. The biggest rectification was to install a parallel 185mm SWA cable to the kitchen panel.
For all of our fixed wire rectifications, the client was issued with a NICEIC Minor Works Electrical Certificate, and for the kitchen supply, we issued an Electrical Installation Certificate.
Electrical kitchen equipment installation
After a successful kitchen upgrade involving a full switch from gas to electric and increasing the capacity of their electrical supply, we installed Rational ovens and pizza ovens in the St George’s Park hotel kitchen. We carried out these works entirely outside of normal operating hours and in collaboration with other contractors as well as the kitchen, hotel and maintenance teams.
For all new electrical works that we carry out, we issue a NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificate. This is completed by our engineers on site and later verified by our Electrical QS.
Thermal image rectifications
The thermal imaging itself was carried out at the St George’s Park hotel by other contractors, but our team was asked to sort the repairs because of our successful EICR works. This included swapping out components such as relays, overloads and contactors, and tightening up loose terminals to the manufacturer’s recommended torque settings.
After the work was completed, we then checked the thermal imaging using a thermal image camera and created a rectification certificate, which was then issued to the client.
Sauna suppression system installation
We were also asked if we could install a sauna suppression system into the St George’s Park hotel’s health suite. We arranged for Smartmist to design, install and commission the system. Then, our responsibility was to supply the installation electrically and also link the system to the hotel’s fire alarm system. All these works were carried out during normal working hours, arranged with the health suite to minimise any disruption.
General electrical works at Hilton Nottingham
At Hilton’s Nottingham property, our team has carried out electrical installations, emergency lighting surveys and testing, CCTV, intruder alarm and panic alarm surveys and servicing.
“Every electrical call-out and project that Hilton tasks us with is a new and exciting challenge, and we have the chance to use our wide range of expertise to help improve many aspects of the hotel’s daily operations.”
Pete Walker, Midland Fire Engineer
Why choose a NICEIC approved contractor for your electrical works?
We may have noticed that we’ve mentioned NICEIC a few times throughout this article – and for good reason!
That’s because choosing a NICEIC approved contractor means peace of mind. NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) approval shows that your electrical contractor has been independently assessed to meet strict safety, technical and legal standards. They’re inspected regularly to make sure they still meet their approval, which means you can always be confident that they’ll get the job done properly and professionally, and are able to advise you on your safety obligations as a business.
In a nutshell, NICEIC approval is the trusted mark of quality you’re looking for in electrical works.
